SPACE VOLUME & ENCLOSURE
Project Objective
To create a café with a courtyard on The Great Lawn. This building will be used for everyday activities and special events. Design this structure with the following architectonics as a “concept”: 1. Use of one organization method (centralized, linear, radial, clustered, or grid) located to be site specific. 2. A minimum of one of each of the following: a base plane, a depressed plane (minimum of 18” below grade), and an elevated plane (minimum of 18” above grade). 3. A composition of volumes that include at least one of each of the following: a space within a space, interlocking space(s) and adjacent spaces.

Design Concept
Using the organizational method of centralization this cafe centers around a middle elevator allowing for clear and easy circulation throughout the building. The elevator being the focal point adds a sense of hierarchy to the rooftop courtyard where guests can look down through the massive skylight or enjoy some fresh air while sipping their morning coffee. Aside from the elevator the rooftop can also be access from a staircase on the side
